Serving Our Community

Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church has been serving the Jefferson City community for more than 150 years. Started in 1850 by a group of free blacks and some who were enslaved, the early church members shared their space with the Baptist church and also hosted classes for Lincoln University after it was founded in 1866. The church was forced to relocate in 1956 when the state acquired the land for a new highway. The congregation settled in the heart of the traditional black neighborhood known as The Foot, just a few short block from Lincoln. In 2013, the church moved again for yet another highway project. It was important for the congregation to remain in the neighborhood and the new church is just one block north. Now worshiping and serving in a new edifice, the members want to share their blessings. Since July 2013 community dinners, a health fair and now a Fall Festival have been open to all. But there will be more!
